A Visit to the Grave Site

, , , , , , ,

Today, Dec. 1st, would have been the twelve-year wedding anniversary for Bill and Jackie. We thank God for eleven wonderful years of memories we cherish. Below are pictures from a graveside visit. Please continue to pray – especially during the holiday season – for Bill, the kids, Jackie’s family and friends as God continues the healing process in each of them.

Oh, but Lord just remind me,

What death is for–

It’s only the hand

that opens heaven’s door. [-Stephen Davey]

Black Belt Boys!

, ,

IMG_9219It has been over six months since Jackie left this earth, and Bill suggested that we update Jackie’s site with this wonderful news from their first two boys, Jacob and Eli (ages 13 and 11). She would be so proud to know that they accomplished obtaining their black belts in Tang Soo Do on Saturday, September 27, 2014.  Jackie was a big part of getting them to training, but a bigger part in helping them become the warriors within that God created them to be.

If the choice is to view yourself as a victim and surrender to your assailant- whether it be a person or a circumstance- or to view yourself as an overcomer and recognize that a warrior never surrenders – except to Christ alone – then these boys have clearly chosen the better.

This video created by Brigette McMichael (Jackie’s sister) is an assembly of recordings of the boys’ tests, as well as messages from friends and family of the Lewis family, and is in honor of and in congratulations to Jacob and Eli.

Congratulations on your Black Belts, Jake and Eli!!

“I have always avoided funerals like the plague,” Bill confessed, as gratitude flooded his IMG_5965emotions, realizing what others overcame in order to help him in his time of need.

Bill wants to say, “Thank you,” although the words do not seem like enough, when compared to the tsunami of serving, cards, flowers, donations, prayers and love that hit his home in the last few weeks since Jackie’s sudden illness and end of life on this earth. He stood in awe as the hands of brothers and sisters in Christ were extended – and continue to extend- in so many areas of his life, and the lives of his children and Jackie’s family.

Thank you to the hospitals’ staffs who worked around the clock to care for Jackie. Thank you especially to the ICU doctors and nurses at Henry Ford, the nurses at the station who monitored visits, and the volunteers who helped crowd control.  Thank you to those who filled the hospital waiting rooms.  There were friends who left their homes hours away, to come by Bill and Jackie’s side. Thank you.  There were those who flew in from out of town – Colorado, Bahamas, California, and Florida to name a few –  to express their love. The Lewis home turned into a full image copy 2house of people sleeping in every bed, then overflowing to every floor space available, leaving the kitchen teeming with love. Several times a day, meals for the 40+ people arrived by a volunteer at the dooroften unnamed, or even treated like a “stranger” delivery person, since the ones accepting the delivery did not know the volunteer’s connection to Jackie.  Thank you. Children were taken to sleepovers. Funeral dresses were bought. A rented piano showed up at church.  Clothes were provided for family to avoid their driving home to pack. Thank you. Unsung heroes showed up before dawn to shovel the newest ten inches of snow, or hand-escort family-members to their cars on the steep hill of the Lewis home. Trash disappeared, although it had overflowed the garage on days the trucks didn’t come. Neighbors stopped by to share their surprisingly similar story to Bill’s. Thank you. Funeral arrangements were made; obituary written.  Business commitments were filled in by proxies, with none dropped. Kids’ activities kept the world turning in their own way.

For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. (1Cor 12:12)

It will be hard to move on; we know the loss is permanent in this life, but the despair is not. Somehow, the kindness and love of those surrounding seems to ease the burden.  For that, we are immensely thankful.

We appreciate your continued prayer in the days and years ahead.

On to a million lives touched by Jackie’s handprints…

Bill, Jacob, Eli, Bella and Nemo

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2Cor 4:16-18)

Love showed at the Celebration of the Life of Jackie Lewis

The “Celebration of the Life of Jackie Lewis” service was recorded and has been posted: Click here.

IMG952320The new-fallen snow and shut-down highways didn’t stop the sanctuary from being full for the Celebration of Jackie’s life. Over 12,000 clicks on the webcast give us a glimpse of the impact of the life we celebrated. Pastor Jim Combs opened the service, reminding us that though we may have wished we were anywhere but there, “we are the lucky ones” because those of us watching were touched by the handprints of Jackie.  We settled in for the goodbyes to a wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend.

The beautiful service which included sharing by Jackie’s siblings and friends, and a message of H.O.P.E. from Pastor Combs, climaxed with Jackie herself- by recorded video- telling the story of her own hope in Christ. A standing ovation ended the celebration of a life well-lived and well-loved.

Thank you for celebrating the gift of Jackie’s life with us.

Jackie has reached her Home

, ,

Jackie is home with her Lord.Jackie

Bill says he felt her presence in a calm feeling at 10:30am, and wanted everyone to know that he appreciates their prayers, and knows, as Christ told the repentant thief on the cross, “I tell you, today you will be in paradise with me,” that Jackie too is with Christ in peace.

We all feel, however, the earthly loss of our dear friend, and are comforted in the knowledge that she is in heaven.

Please continue to pray for Bill and his children, Jacob, Eli, Bella and Nemo, that they would feel the strength and love of Christ moreso now than ever.

And thank you all for your love and concern.  You are appreciated more than words can express.

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” (John 14:1-4)

Wednesday 1:13pm update

Thank you for praying.

The family is currently meeting with doctors for the results of the morning’s testing.

Please pray the Holy Spirit’s presence and guidance for those currently in the room, while you continue to pray for Jackie.

In Christ alone.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. (Is 43:2)

Wednesday 10:24am Update

The doctor has said the outcome of the ultrasound was “poor,” BUT we can take it as a good sign that they want to run more tests on brain swelling and brain activity!  There will not be more information for at least ninety minutes.  We can believe in the glimpse of hope…a glimpse that maybe, just maybe, the mountain is moving?!

The ICU waiting room AND the main-floor waiting room are full of friends and family of Jackie. (We can all pray for the other families unrelated to Jackie who are waiting their news as well.)

And say “move!” to the mountain in the name of Christ Jesus.

Be joyful in hope, patient in tribulation, faithful in prayer. (- Rom 12:12)
